~-

THURSDAY

JUNE 19, 1975

(9) Mrs. Ruth Minter (address not known) -- expressed hope
that tax burden will not be placed on low-income citizens
and questioned wage increase proposed for City employees
at time when industrial and other workers are not working
full-time;
(10) Mr. Thomas J. Womack, 200 Fourth Street -- favored using
Revenue-Sharing monies to balance budget and/or to
provide tax relief; expressed opinion that City can
not afford to refuse federal funds (i.e., Community
Development funds) and yet spend money on downtown area;
(11) Mr. George Black, owner-operator of Leed's Music Center --
opposed somewhat the proposed residential garbage service
curtailment; and defended downtown renewal;
(12) Mr. Steve Ballard, 1217 Knollwood Place -- questioned
subsidization of public transit operation and the amounts
of funds required under "General Expense";
(13) Mr. Pete Compton, Chalmers Street -- questioned operation
of City's hydro-electric plant and the operating of the
water fountain in front of City Hall; and
(14) Mr. Robert Martin, 104 Massey Street -- expressed opinion
that City could have gotten along with less "elaborate"
facilities, such as City Hall and the City Shop, but
placed responsibility on citizens for supporting such
projects.

Councilman Fitz-Hugh offered some general comments in which he pointed out that

the City's business and operation are no different than that of private business,

all of which have experienced increased costs of operation during the past

several years, except that the City has imposed no property tax increase during

the past four years and, at the same time, has realized less and less profit

from its electric system operation because of absorption by the City of

increases in cost of electric energy purchased.

After closing remarks by Mayor Boaz and Councilman Lester, again thanking the

citizens for their presence and interest, Council was adjourned.

)
W.
