<br />MARCH 11, 1975 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation, a petition filed by Bennett & Wilson, Inc., Realtors, <br /> <br />requesting the rezoning from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional" of <br /> <br />petitioner's property located at 814 Starling Avenue. <br /> <br />Through Mr. Allan McClain, Manager of the local Southwestern Virginia Gas <br /> <br />Company, Council was apprised of a rate-increase application filed recently <br /> <br />by the SW Virginia Gas Company with the State Corporation Commission, indicating <br /> <br />the revised tariffs--if approved--would effect an overall increase of approximately <br /> <br />12.6% to afford the company a 9% rate of return. Council was also apprised of an <br /> <br />impending and/or anticipated reduction in the availability of natural gas for the <br /> <br />company's local customers, brought about by the reported inability of the company's <br /> <br />supplier to furnish an adequate supply. <br /> <br />Council filed for forthcoming annual review a petition, as filed by Mr. Erwin Katz, <br /> <br />requesting approximately 123 feet of curb-and-gutter along the north side of Oak <br /> <br />Street. <br /> <br />Council unanimously granted permission to American Legion Post No. 78 to operate bingo <br /> <br />games at its headquarters at 215 Fayette Street, subject to all applicable statutes <br /> <br />and regulations. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council of the forthcoming series of meetings scheduled <br /> <br />for citizen input as to the City's physical needs. <br />
