MARCH 11, 1975

TUESDAY

Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and

recommendation, a petition filed by Bennett & Wilson, Inc., Realtors,

requesting the rezoning from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional" of

petitioner's property located at 814 Starling Avenue.

Through Mr. Allan McClain, Manager of the local Southwestern Virginia Gas

Company, Council was apprised of a rate-increase application filed recently

by the SW Virginia Gas Company with the State Corporation Commission, indicating

the revised tariffs--if approved--would effect an overall increase of approximately

12.6% to afford the company a 9% rate of return. Council was also apprised of an

impending and/or anticipated reduction in the availability of natural gas for the

company's local customers, brought about by the reported inability of the company's

supplier to furnish an adequate supply.

Council filed for forthcoming annual review a petition, as filed by Mr. Erwin Katz,

requesting approximately 123 feet of curb-and-gutter along the north side of Oak

Street.

Council unanimously granted permission to American Legion Post No. 78 to operate bingo

games at its headquarters at 215 Fayette Street, subject to all applicable statutes

and regulations.

City Manager Noland informed Council of the forthcoming series of meetings scheduled

for citizen input as to the City's physical needs.
