<br />, c () <br />$ lJ . <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 27, 1980 <br /> <br />and sewer funds, with Council requesting Mr. Brown and his staff to review <br /> <br />these tariffs and present recommended adjustments thereto to Council. Upon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted by Council, at its forthcoming June 10th meeting, <br /> <br />on the proposed 1980-81 City Budget, as revised. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a certified copy of the Abstract of Votes cast <br /> <br />in the councilmanic election held May 6, 1980, for three seats on Council, which <br /> <br />abstract set forth the following: <br /> <br />Names of Candidates <br />Henry C. Reed <br />L. D. Oakes <br />Francis T. West <br />Joseph E. Finley <br /> <br />Votes Received <br />2,969 <br />2,679 <br />2,359 <br />2,024 <br /> <br />Accordingly, as certified, Messrs. Reed, Oakes, and West were duly elected as <br /> <br />members of Council for four-year terms beginning July 1, 1980. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the leasing <br /> <br />of the soon-to-be-discontinued Day Care Center facility, located at 4th & D Streets, <br /> <br />now owned by the City School Board but in the process of being deeded to the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville, to the W. C. Ham Learning Center and to the Patrick Henry Mental <br /> <br />Health Center, beginning July 1, 1980, at an annual rental of $1,800.00 per year for <br /> <br />the first year, it being indicated to Council by Mr. Lambert Wood, Director of the <br /> <br />Chapter Ten agency, that--although the property has a much higher rental value--the <br /> <br />proposed tenants can not afford more than the amount set for the first year. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland and Mr. Robert I. Corekin, Electric <br /> <br />Department Director, Council unanimously accepted the bid of $96,000.00 submitted <br />
