<br />r": ') <br />".,j~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />!EBRUARY 12, 1980 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the <br /> <br />acceptance of State grants and appropriated same in the amounts of $6,500.00 <br /> <br />and $3,750.00, toward the purchase of a paint striping machine and new street <br /> <br />signs, respectively, estimated to cost $13,750.00 and $7,500.00, respectively, <br /> <br />for which $6,000.00 was initially budgeted (for the paint striping machine), <br /> <br />with the remainder of needed funds authorized to be transferred from the <br /> <br />un-used portion of the budgeted salary for the City's Traffic & Planning <br /> <br />Director, who retired December 31, 1979. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council re-enacted, for <br /> <br />the license tax year beginning March 1, 1980, the City's Motor Vehicle License <br /> <br />Tax Ordinance which became effective March 1, 1979. <br /> <br />Council referred to City Manager Noland and City Attorney Worthy certain suggested <br /> <br />revisions to the City's Business & Occupational License Tax Ordinance, as posed by <br /> <br />Mr. D. B. Hanel, Commissioner of the Revenue. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the retention of <br /> <br />the City's Cross-Connection Control Inspector through June 30, 1980, with the <br /> <br />salary thereof (after the March 15th CETA eligibility expiration) to be charged <br /> <br />to the City's Water Utility Fund, with Council indicating that it will assess the <br /> <br />need for continuation of this position during its consideration of the 1980-81 <br /> <br />budget requests and, too, reasserting its intention to hold the number of City <br /> <br />employees to its current level, <br /> <br />Council unanimously appointed Mr. Phillip T, Henry, City Engineer, to membership <br /> <br />on the Martinsville Transportation & Safety Commission, succeeding Mr. Irving R. <br /> <br />McGhee, former City Traffic & Planning Director, who retired on December 31, 1979. <br />
