<br />:8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 22, 1980 <br /> <br />Dr. William Belt, Dentist with the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department, <br /> <br />presented to Council the need for educational programs in the field of proper <br /> <br />dental care and, to this end, presented a proclamation (which Mayor Hobson <br /> <br />executed) designating the week of February 3, 1980 through February 9, 1980 <br /> <br />as Dental Health Week. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideratiDn and recommenda- <br /> <br />tion, a petition filed by Mrs. Christine M. Bennett, of Bennett & Associates, <br /> <br />Realtor, seeking a "relaxation" of the City-s rGgulations pertaining to outdoor <br /> <br />signs in "P-2 Professionalll zoning districts. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 58-1117.2 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), <br /> <br />Council authorized Mr. Clarence P. Kearfott, Attorney at Law, to take action in <br /> <br />the name of the City of Martinsville against the owners, heirs and/or assigns of <br /> <br />property identified as Lot No. 51 in the name of Eliza Gravely and of property <br /> <br />identified as Lot No. 51A in the name of Bettie E. Redd, both of which lots are <br /> <br />situated at or near the end of Cherry Street, in Martinsville. The authorized <br /> <br />procedure permits Mr. Kearfott to sell these lots for delinquent ta~es thereon due <br /> <br />the City. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and recommenda- <br /> <br />tion, an application for a Special-Use Permit, as filed by The Clyde Beatty-Cole <br /> <br />Bros. Circus, which application, if approved by Council, will permit the applicant <br /> <br />to present its circus (with or without a sponsor) at Liberty Heights Fairgrounds <br /> <br />on April 28th and 29th, 1980. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation by City Manager Noland, Council unanimously adopted the <br /> <br />following ordinance amending Section 10-152 of the City Code, reassigning some of <br /> <br />the duties of Mr. Irving R. McGhee, Traffic & Planning Director, who retired as of <br /> <br />December 31, 1979: <br />
