Rehabilitation of the existing plant consisting of repair of the <br />electrical and mechanical equipment now presently used, together <br />with replacing obsolete auxiliary mechanical and electrical items, <br />and with little or no structural work in the powerhouse but including <br />obviously needed maintenance improvements. <br /> <br />2. Rehabilitation of the existing plant consisting of replacement of <br />electrical and mechanical equipment with equal or larger capacity, <br />together with replacing obsolete auxiliary mechanical and electrical <br />items, and with the necessary structural revisions to the powerhouse <br />and including obviously necessary maintenance improvements. <br /> <br />3. Construction of a new run-of-river plant (1,500 kW) located on the <br />left bank and subsequent abandonment of the existing plant. <br /> <br />4. Construction of a new run-of-river plant on the left bank operating <br />in conjunction with the rehabilitation of the existing plant as <br />described in 1 above. <br /> <br />5. Construction of a new run-of-river plant on the left bank operating <br />in conjunction with the rehabilitation of the existing plant as <br />described in 2 above. <br /> <br />Council continued to its next regular meeting consideration of proposals already <br /> <br />received, and any additional proposals to be submitted before or at said meeting, <br /> <br />by firms seeking to serve as the City's financial advisors for the proposed <br /> <br />Ridgeway hydro-electric project. <br /> <br />In reviewing a recent IlLetter To The Editor" (of the Martinsville Bulletin) written <br /> <br />by Mrs. Mabelle S. King, Director of the City's Social Services Department, in <br /> <br />which letter Mrs. King observed that federal regulations (regarding the administering <br /> <br />of the "Welfare" assistance program) Il.....encourage indolence, illegitimacy and <br /> <br />family separation because they make it more attractive to not-work than to work", <br /> <br />Council went on record as concurring with, and supportive of, Mrs. King's observa- <br /> <br />tions and, also, directed that Senators Harry F. Byrd, Jr. and John W. Warner and <br /> <br />Congressman W. C. ("Dan") Daniel be advised (by letter) of Council's action thereon. <br />
