<br />u6 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER II, 1979 <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged receipt of a verbal report from the City's Building Official <br /> <br />on the implementation of the State-mandated "back-flow" device installation program. <br /> <br />In connection with the Finance Director's financial report for the quarter ended Sept. 30, <br /> <br />1979 and with certain suggestions therein, Council unanimously (I) directed the reserving from <br /> <br />the Electric Fund's surplus account such amount or amounts as have been set aside in this <br /> <br />fund's escrow account established by Council under date of April 10, 1979, and (2) <br /> <br />appropriated from the General Fund's surplus account the sum of $44,000.00 as a supplement <br /> <br />to 1979-80 funds already budgeted for the CBD project. <br /> <br />Council concurred in Councilman West's suggestion that construction work, such as was <br /> <br />recently undertaken by Central Telephone Company along East Church Street near its inter- <br /> <br />section with Brookdale Road, be scheduled so as to cause the least inconvenience to the <br /> <br />public and, particularly, to coincide with the seasons in which the lowest traffic flow <br /> <br />generally occurs. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a copy of an "Abstract of Votes" cast by City voters in <br /> <br />the general election held November 6, 1979 in which Mr. Jesse D. Clift was re-elected <br /> <br />Clerk of Circuit Court for an eight-year term beginning January I, 1980, and in which <br /> <br />incumbent members from the Thirteenth District to the Virginia House of Delegates were <br /> <br />re-elected, (viz., Ms. Mary Sue Terry and Messrs. A. L. Philpott and Claude V. Swanson), <br /> <br />as was Senator Virgil H. Goode, Jr., from the Twentieth District to the Virginia Senate. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the executing of the <br /> <br />several contracts necessary for the acquisition of a data processing system for the City, <br /> <br />to be coordinated with a similar authorization by the Henry County Board of Supervisors <br />
