<br />-~ <br /> <br />_l <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 12~ 1978 <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of 11artinsville, Virginia~ in regular <br />session held on December 12, 1978~ that the mandatory retirement age of all City <br />employees~ with the exception of fire fighters and law enforcement officers~ <br />shall be age 70, <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that all prior regulations or policies of <br />the Council of the City of Martinsville pertaining to mandatory retirement age <br />(for employees) and conflicting in any way with this ordinance, including--but <br />not limited to--those adopted on July 17, 1958 and September 12~ 1967~ be~ and <br />the same hereby are, rescinded, <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that an emergency exists and (that) this <br />ordinance shall be effective on and after December 15~ 1978, <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved~ for relay to the West Piedmont Planning District Commission~ <br /> <br />a listing of capital improvements projects the City might undertake through the year <br /> <br />1985 but without establishing any priorities therefor, being in the estimated total sum <br /> <br />of $54,645~300, <br /> <br />Council unanimously appointed Mrs, Marjorie D, Midkiff and Messrs, Herbert 0, Hughes <br /> <br />(City Recreation Director) and James W, Hopkins (Assistant to the City's Public Works <br /> <br />Director) to membership on the Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community Commission~ <br /> <br />now in the process of being organized, <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Upon motion~ duly seconded and unanimously carried~ Council appropriated the sum of <br /> <br />$1~000.00~ as a supplement to the approved 1978~79 budget for the City Sheriff~ James <br /> <br />L, Carter, for the purpose~-with budgeted funds-~of replacing one of the two City-owned <br /> <br />cars used by the Sheriff. <br /> <br />Council placed on first reading certain amendments to--and/or are-writing of--the <br /> <br />City's employee grievance procedure, to conform with revised State statutes relating <br /> <br />thereto. <br />
