'- <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 10, 1978 <br /> <br />"---- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a clean environment contributes to the emotional, physical <br />and economic well-being of our citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville desires to ]01n with Henry County <br />in a cooperative effort to improve waste handling procedures and <br />reduce litter; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />that it hereby endorses the Clean Community System, and supports the <br />participation of the County of Henry and the City of Martinsville in <br />this System; and <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Further, in keeping with the design of the Clean Community System <br />and in conjunction with the Henry County Board of Supervisors, the <br />Martinsville City Council hereby authorizes the establishing of the <br />Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community Commission. Said commission <br />shall be an official commission of the County and City and shall be <br />accountable to the Board of Supervisors and to the City Council. The <br />members and Chairman of the Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community <br />Commission shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors and the City <br />Council, with the concurrence of the Board of Supervisors and the City <br />Council, at a later date. <br /> <br />This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption. <br /> <br />At the request of City Manager Noland, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried), Council appropriated from the General Fund Emergency Account the sum of $200.00 <br /> <br />for the purchase of a file cabinet for the City Manager's office, the need for which (cabinet) <br /> <br />was not apparent when the 1978-79 City Budget was prepared. <br /> <br />Acceding to Councilman Greene's request that he not be reappointed to membership--as a <br /> <br />councilmanic representative--on the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, because of <br /> <br />serious conflicts with his personal business as well as with his involvement in many other <br /> <br />governmental and civic activities, Council unanimously appointed Vice Mayor Cole to <br /> <br />membership on said Commission for a term concurrent with his present term as Councilman, <br /> <br />viz., to June 30, 1982. <br />
