.-

TUESDAY

MAY 23, 1978

.-.

Bazaar Committee) expressed a strong preference for the school parking lot site

off Fairy Street (over the Liberty Heights site), meanwhile indicating that the

Volunteer Fire Company does not want use of the Vocational Shop site off Hospital
recommended
Drive. After convening into a special session, the Planning Commission/that a

Special-Use Permit be issued to the Volunteer Fire Company for--at its option--

either the southeast section of the Martinsvi1le Senior High School's parking

lot, near the intersection of Fairy Street Extension with Commonwealth Boulevard,

or the Liberty Heights Fairgrounds, subject to--particu1arly if the first option

is exercised--the preparation, in advance, of satisfactory plans to resolve any

safety problems. In addition, the Commission recommended that the permit shall

be only for the 1978 Bazear (June 26th-July 1st) and (that) the conditions attached

to the 1977 permit issued for Brown Street Field shall hold. It being noted that

use of the cited parking lot area has the approval of the City School Administration,

Council unanimously accepted the Planning Commission's report and recommendations

and, accordingly, authorized the issuance of the Special-Use Permit pursuant thereto.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on

Mr. Lowell W. Thomas' petition (filed with Council on February 28, 1978) seeking

the abandonment and/or quit-claiming of a small residue of right-of-way from the

Memorial Boulevard construction project some years ago, situated at or near the

intersection of said Memorial Boulevard and Summit Street and being a portion of

the former Douglas Street right-of-way. There being no ojbections to this petition

and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation (dated April 21, 1978),

Council unanimously authorized the quit-claiming of said residue in Mr. Thomas'

favor, subject to the establishing of a fifteen-foot setback for this property.
