~8
f...J

TUESDAY

MARCH 14, 1978

indicating that an arrangement might be developed to employ a nurse, on a part-time basis,

by which arrangement (perhaps with the County of Henry) the medical needs of his jail

inmates might be better assessed, obviating the necessity--as now is the case--of calling

in the jail physician unless the needs demand. The consensus of Council's opinion authorized

Sheriff Carter to include funds for said three additional personnel in his forthcoming

1978-79 budget request for Council's consideration and, also, for Sheriff Carter to explore

the possibility of arranging with the County of Henry for the medical services of a part-time

nurse.

City Manager Noland informed Council that, as a result of his recently-issued invitation to

local certified public accounting firms to submit bid proposals for the conduct of the City's

annual audit for the next three-to-five years (beginning with fiscal 1977-78), three such

proposals have been received and, with the concurrence of Council (which was given), these

proposals (as yet unopened) would be forwarded to each member of Council in advance of Council's

forthcoming March 28th meeting, at which meeting Council might be in a position to appraise

the bid proposals and award a contract to the CPA firm Council selects.

Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and recommendation, an

Application for a Special-Use Permit filed by the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company for the

purpose of conducting its 1978 Annual Bazaar at the Martinsville High School parking lot

(June 26th through July 1st), noting that the City School Board has granted the Volunteer

Fire Company permission to use the parking lot for such purpose, subject to the issuance by

the City of the applied-for permit, and further noting that Brown Street Field (at which

location the Company holds the required permit through 1981, by Council's action of October 12,

1976) is no longer available because of the Mulberry Road Extension construction now underway.
