<br />, ~. <br />* u <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 14, 1982 <br /> <br />Social Services discontinued the regular Fuel Assistance Program on Friday, December 10, <br /> <br />1982, except for an implementation of its emergency program, the local Department of <br /> <br />Social Services, supplemented by the City's Emergency Relief Fund and by various charitable <br /> <br />agencies, will be able to provide for most local fuel needs during the current winter. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry from Mayor Cole concerning the need to apprise fully all <br /> <br />families and/or business firms whose properties might be affected by the extending, as now <br /> <br />planned, of Mulberry Road from Ellsworth Street to Market Street, supplementing infor- <br /> <br />mation presented at a recent public hearing, it was reported that the Virginia Department <br /> <br />of Highways & Transportation will carry out this mission. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds informed Council that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has <br /> <br />suspended for a five-month period the eff8ctive date of Appalachian Power Company's <br /> <br />wholesale rate increase, petition for which has been filed by APCo with the Commission, <br /> <br />and that the amount of the increase mayor may not be as much as is being sought by <br /> <br />APCo, being subject to the findings and action of the Commission. <br /> <br />Council accepted for introduction, for further consideration and/or action at its forth- <br /> <br />coming January 25th meeting, an ordinance which will revise and/or amend Article II of <br /> <br />Chapter 15 of the City Code pertaining to house-building numbering requirements. <br /> <br />Council continued to its forthcoming January 25th meeting City Manager Edmonds <br /> <br />December 14th report and recommendations on Curb/Gutter and Sidewalk projects, supple- <br /> <br />menting his original report thereon dated July 26, 1982, wlth the supplemental report <br /> <br />including a reiteration of present policy, recommendations for certain policy changes, <br /> <br />and proposed priorities on future projects. <br />
