<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 12. 1982 <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendations set forth in <br /> <br />its report dated December 21, 1981, with regard to the proposed amending of Sections <br /> <br />II and V of the City's Zoning Ordinance and applicable to regulations governing the <br /> <br />outside storage-visual screening of materials in the City's commercial and manu- <br /> <br />facturing zones, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be con- <br /> <br />ducted by Council on the proposed amendments at Council's regular meeting scheduled <br /> <br />for Tuesday, February 23, 1982, with special prior notice thereof to be forwarded <br /> <br />to each of a number of business firms located in these zones. <br /> <br />With Councilman West abstaining (because his manufacturing business is located with- <br /> <br />in the original confines of the City's Industrial Park), all other members of <br /> <br />Council accepted the following statement designed to establish a formal policy for <br /> <br />the development of the Industrial Park, a committee for the implementation thereof <br />(perhaps including representatives from Henry County and/or the Henry County Board <br /> <br />of Supervisors), on which Vice Mayor Cole and Councilman Reed agreed to serve~_ to <br /> <br />be established at Council's forthcoming January 26th meeting: <br /> <br />STATEMENT OF INDUSTRIAJ,. PARK POLICY <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Puroose : <br />This statement is to establish policies covering the sale, development <br />and use of property within the City of Martinsville Industrial Park. <br />These policies involve the City, Henry County, the N & W Railway <br />Company, Appalachian Power Compa.ny, Southwestern Virginia Gas Company, <br />(and) present and future industries who own or will own land in the <br />Industrial Park. Among the purposes of this statement are (those) to <br />establish areas of responsibility for all involved parties; to provide <br />the controls and improvements required for the orderly development of <br />the park; and to promote the sale and development of the property for <br />the purpose of stimulating the economy and providing job opportunities <br />for the citizens of the area. <br />
