<br />:Q <br />~) (J <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 12. 1982 <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on proposed <br /> <br />amendments to the City's cablevision franchise ordinance (principally to extend the <br /> <br />life of the current franchise for a period of fifty-nine months from date of <br /> <br />adoption or from date of request made by the present franchisee, Multi-Channel <br /> <br />T. V. Cable Company of V~nsfield, Ohio, trading as Martinsville Cablevision), at <br /> <br />which hearing no objections were registered by any citizen. After some discussion <br /> <br />by members of Council of certain sections of the proposed ordinance incorporating <br /> <br />these amendments as ~ell as a re-publishing of the franchise ordinance, as proposed <br /> <br />to be amended, Council placed said amended ordinance on first reading, with <br /> <br />clarification of points raised by members of Council to be included in said amended <br /> <br />ordinance which, after due notice as required by Section 15.1-314 of the CODE OF <br />VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), Council proposes to adopt at its regular meeting <br />scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 1982. <br /> <br />In continuing consideration (from its last regular meeting held December 22, 1981) <br /> <br />of Appalachian Power Company's Public Authority Tariff issued December 1, 1981, as <br /> <br />~ell as APCo's request that the City execute a new contract or agreement thereunder <br /> <br />for electric service provided by APCo to some of the City's public facilities, <br /> <br />Council continued consideration of the contract execution request but directed that <br /> <br />the City pay for such energy in accordance with this new or revised tariff and, also, <br /> <br />apply this tariff to such of the City's retail electric customers as are classified <br /> <br />as public uses and facilities within the definition of the tariff. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Edmonds, Council authorized the continuation of <br /> <br />processes recently initiated by Mr. Edmonds toward up-dating, revising, and <br /> <br />republishing the City's Charter and Code. <br />
