<br />.1' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 14,1981 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />of citizens for Council's consideration in appointing and/or reappointing members <br /> <br />to various boards and commissions. In further discussion of this matter, Mrs. Dameron <br /> <br />indicated her group's acceptance of Council's position in this matter, as stated in <br /> <br />the preceding sentence and as evidenced by her July 13th telephone conversation with <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Cole, the substance of which (from Vice Mayor Cole's notes and his reference <br /> <br />thereto in this meeting) follows: <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />1. That, in the future, Council do a better job of informing the public <br />of vacancies on the School Board, including informing the public when <br />terms of incumbents are due to expire, to provide the public with an <br />opportunity to suggest names of citizens interested in serving on lthe <br />School Board; and <br /> <br />2. Mrs. Dameron and her group do not wish to alter Council's responsibility <br />and authority in the appointing of board members. <br /> <br />In responding to a resolution adopted by the Martinsville Transportation Safety <br /> <br />Commission, requesting Council to take immediate action to prohibit all left turns <br /> <br />from an exit from Patrick Henry Mall onto Brookdale Road and noting that, while this <br /> <br />intersection currently poses a danger to vehicular traffic, for which a better solution <br /> <br />to the problem and danger does not seem possible because of private property and owners <br /> <br />involved, Council concurred in City Manager Edmonds' recommendation that the problem <br /> <br />be dealt with administratively through the installation on City right-of-way of <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />appropriate signs until such time, if it becomes apparent and possible, a better <br /> <br />arrangement can be devised. <br /> <br />After conducting a duly-advertised public hearing, at which no objections were filed, <br /> <br />and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendations, Council adopted the <br /> <br />following ordinances amending the following sections of the City's Zoning Ordinance <br /> <br />relating to home occupations: <br />
