, , '3'.
. I ~
c.: (

TUESDAY

JUNE 23, 1981

recommendation that the rezoning request be allowed and, also, effected same

by adoption of the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville,
Virginia, in regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map
of the City of Martinsville be--and is hereby--amended to
reflect a C-3 Commercial zoning classification for that
certain twenty-foot strip of land owned by the Martinsville
Athletic Club and extending from Morgan Street to Commonwealth
Boulevard, parallel and adjacent to presently-zoned C-3
Commercial property owned by said Martinsville Athletic Club,
as shown on Plat of Survey prepared for owner by J. A. Gustin
& Associates under date of March 25, 1981, and further
identified as Parcel E on said Plat.

Also, pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on a special-use permit application filed by W. H . Weaver Construction Company,

of Greensboro, North Carolina, to allow applicant to construct and manage a 58-unit

apartment complex, to be known as Martins Landing Apartments, along the north side

of East Church Street (Route 58 East) opposite its intersection with Cabell Street.

Upon inquiry, applicant informed Council that no rental assistance or rental subsidy

would be involved. Council was informed, too, as a result of an inquiry from

Mr. Harvey Compton, 104 Salmons Street, that the apartment complex will not encroach

upon right-of-way required for a proposed highway connecting link between Commonwealth

Boulevard and Route 58 East. There being no objections registered by any citizen to

this project, Council unanimously accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation

that the permit be granted and unanimously authorized the issuance of said permit

as developed by the Planning Commission.

In accordance with duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on Nationwide Homes' petition requesting extension of its special-use permit

(initially issued February 24, 1976) for the third-phase development of petitioner's

Deerfield Acres Subdivision, east of Brookdale Road. There being no objections

registered by any citizen and in acceptance of the Planning Commissions'

recommendation that the petition be granted, Council unanimously extended said

permit for said Phase Three.
