<br />1:= <br /> <br />JUNE 28, 1983 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />the plan effect upon adjacent arterial streets as well as planning for the long-range <br /> <br />traffic-flow needs of the area streets. After some discussion, and upon motion (duly <br /> <br />seconded), Council (by a vote of three-to-two, Messrs. Reed and West voting "No") <br /> <br />accepted the Commission's recommendations hereinbefore cited. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized the filing of an application for a grant of $10,500.00 <br /> <br />from the Virginia Department of Transportation Safety to help finance and support the <br /> <br />cost of a project of the City's Police Department (and endorsed by the City's Trans- <br /> <br />portation Safety Commission) to pursue selective enforcement of driving-under-the <br /> <br />influence statutes within the City for the period beginning October 3, 1983, and ending <br /> <br />September 30, 1984. <br /> <br />After considering by Council of City Attorney Worthy's recent report and recommendations <br /> <br />pertaining to the keeping of--or not keeping of--goats and sheep within the City, which <br /> <br />report was continued from Council's June 14th meeting, Councilman West introduced a <br /> <br />motion--which lacked a second--to revise the City's ordinances in accordance with the <br /> <br />City Attorney's recommendations, noting that sometime in the future Council may wish <br /> <br />to prohibit altogether the keeping of animals (i.e., livestock, etc.) and fowl within <br /> <br />the City. This motion was followed by Councilman Reed's motion, which was duly seconded, <br /> <br />directing that an ordinance be prepared by which, if adopted, Council will prohibit the <br /> <br />keeping of all livestock and fowl within the City except those for which permits, if any, <br /> <br />are in force.
