l(J

TUESDAY

MAY 24, 1983

-

--

Vice-Mayor Oakes then introduced his motion, which was duly seconded, that the total cost

for the position of (additional) appraisor, estimated at $13,195.00, be included and/or

reinstated in the 1983-84 budget. Councilman West then introduced a substitute motion,

which was duly seconded, that--including, and in addition to, Vice-Mayor Oakes' motion--

the School Board reduce its 1983-84 budget request by $23,800.00 (this sum being the

difference between the $50,000.00 reduction heretofore directed and the $26,200.00 in ex-

cess revenues and reduced expenditures now forecast by the School Board for 1983-84); how-

ever, after some discussion and in view of support by Vice-Mayor Oakes of the School Board's

latest revisions of revenue and expenditure estimates (hereinbefore referred to) for both

1982-83 and 1983-84 and of his acceptance of the 1983-84 school budget request as revised

thereby, Councilman West withdrew his motion. Vice-Mayor Oakes then presented a revised

motion, seconded by Councilman West and unanimously carried, that Council accept in toto

the revised estimates presented by the School Board (which will produce a net increase of

$118,360.00 to General Fund surplus at June 30, 1984), that the sum of $13,195.00 be in-

cluded in the 1983-84 City Budget for costs associated with the additional position of

appraisor (for the Commissioner of Revenue's office), and that the sum of $8,000.00 be in-

cluded for the cost of installing storm drainage facilities in the J. Frank Wilson Memorial

Park. Then, upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously carried), Council tentatively

approved the revised 1983-84 City Budget and called for a public hearing thereon at a

special meeting of Council to be conducted on Tuesday, June 7, 1983, in the Council Chamber,

City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.

Pursuant to duly advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on proposed

amendments (recommended by the Planning Commission and previously introduced by ordinances)

to sub-sections of Sections V and VI of the City's Zoning Ordinance. There being no

objections thereto registered by anyone, Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed;
