<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 8, 1983 <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />Council accepted a supplemental report pertaining to improvements at the Spruce Street- <br /> <br />Mulberry Road intersection, which improvements were made possible through the cooperation <br /> <br />and assistance of Mr. J. P. Sutton, owner of property at the southeast corner of this <br /> <br />intersection. Council also accepted the recommendation (included in the report prepared <br /> <br />by George W. Brown, Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director) that no further studies, <br /> <br />in view of the improvements made and Council's recent action to keep open the Jefferson <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Circle access at this intersection, be made at this time. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />(introduced at Council's January 25th meeting and subsequently revised as to Sections 15-27 <br /> <br />and 15-29) which amends Article II of Chapter 15 of the City Code and pertains to the <br /> <br />required numbering of buildings and lots within the City: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that Chapter 15, Article II of the Code <br />of the City of Martinsville (1971, and as amended), concerning the <br />numbering of lots and buildings, be and the same is hereby revised in <br />certain sections to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE II. LOT AND BUILDING NUMBERS <br /> <br />Sec. 15-26. Required. <br /> <br />All lots, parts of lots or other property abutting on any street or <br />avenue shall be numbered. <br /> <br />Sec. 15-27. Base lines. <br /> <br />Church Street from the East Corporate limits to Memorial Boulevard <br />and Memorial Boulevard from Church Street to the North Corporate <br />limits shall constitute the base line for all numbering of streets <br />running north and south. Memorial Boulevard from the South Corporate <br />limits to Bridge Street, Bridge Street, Jones Street and Liberty Street <br />shall constitute the base line for all numbering on streets running <br />east and west. <br /> <br />Sec. 15-28. Business districts. <br /> <br />In a business district from the corner of each block nearest its res- <br />pective base line, each twenty feet of frontage shall be given a number. <br />
