<br />1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 25, 1983 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />waiving of penalties and interest assessed against the following properties (and/or <br /> <br />property owners) for the following tax years, noting that--in these cases-- proper <br /> <br />title searches were not made in the transfer of these properties to their present owners, <br /> <br />or (in the Harris case) a deed was not promptly recorded, or the former owners did not <br /> <br />receive tax bills: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Lots Nos. 18 and 19 at 417 Clearview Drive for the years <br />1963, 1964, 1966, and 1969 through 1973; and a back lot <br />at this location for the years 1963, 1966, and 1969 through <br />1973, in the name of the late J. S. Harris, which properties <br />are now owned by Mrs. Classie A. Harris, with the under- <br />standing that the delinquent taxes thereon and for the years <br />cited will be paid; and <br />Lots Nos. 7 and 8 at 410 Fayette Street for the year 1967; <br />and Lots Nos. 68 and 69 (adjacent to the N&W r-o-w and <br />First Street r-o-w) for the years 1907 through 1970, in the <br />name of the late Willie Edwards, with the understanding that <br />the delinquent taxes thereon and for the years cited will be <br />paid. <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Councilman Reed, Council unanimously adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution in opposition, for the reasons set forth therein, to the locating and/or <br /> <br />operating any low-level radioactive waste disposal facility within the County of Henry <br /> <br />or within counties abutting Henry County, in which areas potential sites for such a <br /> <br />facility are currently being studied by the Virginia Department of Health: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Solid Waste Commission is inviting state- <br />ments of opinions and/or position from concerned citizens and/or <br />local governments with regard to proposed sites for low-level <br />radioactive waste disposal facilities, currently under study by <br />the Virginia Department of Health; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Henry County (in which is located the City of Martinsville) <br />and one or more abutting counties have been selected as potential <br />sites for a low-level redioactive waste disposal facility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, watersheds for the City of Martinsville's raw water supply <br />are located primarily within the County of Henry, with some out- <br />reaches thereof possibly in the Counties of Pittsylvania and <br />Franklin; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council is of the opinion that its raw <br />water supply and the good health of its citizens would seriously be <br />
