Other portions of this departmental budget request discussed

included proposed reductions in hospital-medical costs (for prisoners), proposed re-

ductions in the amount for uniforms, and the proposed purchase of two new motor

vehicles.

Meanwhile, Council directed that another special budget "work-session" (i.e., for

further consideration and tentative action theron) be held Tuesday, May 8, 1984, in

the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 1:00 P.M., with the anticipation of

tentatively adopting a 1984-85 City Budget no later than its regular meeting

scheduled the night of May 8th in order that the required public hearing notice

thereon be advertised no later than May 13th, as now scheduled.

Council also acknowledged receipt of City Manager Edmonds' written response to cer-

tain detailed questions posed by Council in its special meeting held April 26th.

As previously suggested and/or recommended by Councilmember Severt, although not

specifically referred to in Council's official minutes, Mrs. Severt again called to

Council's attention the need to replace curb-and-gutter along both sides of Mulberry

Road, from Starling Avenue to Rives Road, at an estimated cost of $17,000.00, and

the need for street improvements along Finley Street (complementing the on-going

Spruce Street project) at an estimated cost of $83,000.00, neither of which pro-

posed projects is included in the proposed 1984-85 City Budget.

Reference was then made to Councilman West's memorandum (dated April 20, 1984) to

members of Council concerning City Manager Edmonds' recommended 1984-85 City Budget,

by which memorandum Mr. West observed and suggested as follows:
