<br />306 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 10, 1984 <br /> <br />Council also recognized--and presented a token of appreciation to--Mr. Ray W. Brodie, <br /> <br />who became employed by the City on June 7, 1946, and who retired (as General Superin- <br /> <br />tendent, Public Works Department) on February 29, 1984. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded-- <br /> <br />the minutes of its regular meeting held March 27, 1984. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the Planning <br /> <br />Commission's previously-submitted recommendation that the area between Market, Moss, <br /> <br />West Church and Fayette Streets, plus lots fronting the south side of West Church <br /> <br />Street between Moss and Barton Streets, plus the north side of Fayette Street between <br /> <br />Market and Moss Streets, be rezoned from "R-P Residential Professional" to "C-1A Com- <br /> <br />mercial". There being no objections registered against this proposed property rezoning, <br /> <br />Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation by <br /> <br />adopting the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map accordingly: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martins- <br />ville be--and is hereby--amended to reclassify from "R-P Residential <br />Professional" to "C-1A Commercial" all of that area situated between <br />Market, Moss, West Church, and Fayette Streets as well as lots fronting <br />the south side of West Church Street between Moss and Barton Streets, <br />plus those lots fronting the north side of Fayette Street between Market <br />and Moss Streets, as per the attached map. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after April 11, 1984. <br /> <br />By report dated April 3, 1984, the CBD ("Central Business District") Commission <br /> <br />apprised Council of the Commission's concern over the absence of any designated City <br /> <br />agency through which all inquiries, pertaining to expressed interest by retail <br />
