By Virginia Mirror Company, seeking the abandonment of Maryland <br />Street between Lavinder Street and the Norfolk & Western Rail- <br />way Company's right-of-way, and seeking the rezoning from C-3 <br />Commercial to M-2 Industrial that parcel of land identified as <br />Parcel "C" situated between the Norfolk & Western Railway Com- <br />pany's right-of-way and Winston, Lavinder and Maryland Streets; <br /> <br />B. By Mr. Michael Craig (through David L. Harrison, Agent) seeking <br />the rezoning of Lot J, at 6 Cross Street, from R-6 Residential <br />to C-3 Commercial; and <br /> <br />C. By Mrs. Dorothy L. Hairston, seeking the closing and abandon- <br />ment of the unopened portion of Olympia Street from Katherine <br />Street to the corner of Lots. Nos. 85 and 8A, subject to pro- <br />viding temporary turnaround at the end of the improved section <br />of Olympia Street and the preparation of appropriate maps. <br /> <br />Concurring with Councilman Williams' recommendation, Council unanimously adopted <br /> <br />the following resolution in recognition and honor of the 1985 Girls Basketball Team <br /> <br />of Martinsville Senior High School, and its Coach and staff, for its quite success- <br /> <br />ful season recently concluded: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the girls basketball team of Martinsville High School, ably <br />coached by Miss Carla Giles and her staff, recently won both the Dis- <br />trict and Regional championships in Virginia high school girls AA <br />basketball for 1985; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, just this past weekend said MHS girls basketball team con- <br />cluded a successful season by becoming runners-up in the Virginia <br />state finals among AA teams; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, never before has a MHS girls basketball team advanced so far <br />as to be runners-up in such finals; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled, that it does hereby commend and congratu- <br />late this fine team and its coaches for their outstanding 1985 season <br />and accomplishments; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that, in recognition of this <br />team and its coaches, a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach <br />Giles for relay to the team and coaching staff. <br />
