16

TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 1985

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council recommended a

favorable comment to the West Piedmont Planning District Commission's

Clearinghouse matters, as follows:

A. An application by the Blue Ridge Regional Airport Authority
by the Virginia Department of Aviation for a matching grant
of $1,500 for use in a promotion program.

B. An application by Piedmont Regional Community Services Board
for Federal funds of $147,209 and State funds of $1,276,315
for use in connection with the Board's annual program.

In consideration of a request by Frank Gravely of Piedmont Carloading for

a waiver of $85.32 penalty resulting from failure to obtain a business

license before the deadline of May 31, 1985, Mr. J. Ronnie Minter,

Commissioner of the Revenue, stated tnat he had written Mr'. Gravely a

letter stating he would have to pay a penalty because of his business

license tax being delinquent and in turn had received a letter from Mr.

Gravely asking that Council grant him a w~iver. Mr. Minter recommended

that this not be done. Motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded

by Councilman Groden to deny the request for waiver. Upon discussion and

noting that Mr. Gravely was not present to defend his request, a

substitute motion by Councilman Oakes, seconded by Councilman Groden and

unanimously carried was approved to table the matter until the next

meeting of Council and give Mr. Gravely an opportunity to appear.
