<br />.04 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1985 <br /> <br />2. Agree to all understandings and assurances contained in <br />said application; <br /> <br />3. Authorize the funding request for $214,575 of Community <br />Development Block Grant funds, which, if funded, will be <br />matched with $296,414 in local funds, $75,000 in federal <br />funds, and $54,960 in private funds; and <br /> <br />4. Give its City Manager, George W. Brown, authority to <br />complete and sign said application and to act as the <br />City's official representative in connection therewith <br />and to provide such additional information thereon as <br />may be required. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Oakes, seconded by Vice-Mayor Severt and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council adopted the following resolution endorsing <br /> <br />the observance of "Flag Day" on June 14, 1985. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by Act of the Congress of the United States, dated June <br />14, 1777, the first official flag of the United States was <br />adopted; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by Act of Congress, June 14 of each year has been <br />designated "National Flag Day"; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the National League of Cities through its President, Mr. <br />George V. Voinovich, Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, has encouraged <br />cities to participate in the observance of "Flag Day"; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the General Joseph Martin Chapter, Daughters of the <br />American Revolution will be the official sponsor of National Flag <br />Day; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Flag Day celebrates our nation's symbol of unity and <br />stands for our country's devotion to freedom and the equal rights <br />of all; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Virginia, that June 14, 1985, shall be designated <br />Martinsville and urges all citizens to pause on <br />recite with all Americans the Pledge of Allegiance <br />and Nation. <br /> <br />Martinsville, <br />FLAG DAY in <br />this day and <br />to our Flag <br />
