<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 14, 1985 <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Groden, <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council <br /> <br />unanimously <br /> <br />adopted <br /> <br />Resolution <br /> <br />authorizing <br /> <br />a <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community Commission to apply for and <br /> <br />administer a grant on behalf of the City. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Oakes, seconded by Councilman Williams, <br /> <br />Council unanimously <br /> <br />approved <br /> <br />financial <br /> <br />support <br /> <br />( $546.00) of <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />anticipated costs in the Virginia Municipal League's negotiations <br /> <br />with the State Corporation Commission for reduced telephone rates for <br /> <br />local governments. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Council Oakes, seconded by Councilman Williams, <br /> <br />Council unanimously agreed to participate in the National League of <br /> <br />Cities request to observe Flag Day on June 14, 1985, by adopting a <br /> <br />resolution to be considered at the next meeting. <br /> <br />City Manager George Brown presented newly printed copies of the <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan, noting that it was not a Zoning Ordinance but a <br /> <br />planning guide for the City and would be amended from time to time as <br /> <br />necessary. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a letter from Henry County Administrator C. Lee <br /> <br />Lintecum of the intention of the Henry County Board of Supervisors to <br /> <br />increase the rate of its consumer utility tax effective July 1, 1985, <br /> <br />for all customers in Henry County. It was noted that these increases <br /> <br />will affect the City's customers that are located in the County as we <br /> <br />are a collecting agency for the County for these taxes. It was asked <br /> <br />that the City Adminstration report back to the Council as to how the <br /> <br />93 <br /> <br />the <br />
