<br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 1986 <br /> <br />-, <br />(' <br /> <br />that City Manager Brown have the City's Recreation Department study ways and <br /> <br />means by which the community (through responsible organizations and event- <br /> <br />sponsors) will make greater Use of the facility. <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following resolution by which concurrence by <br /> <br />Council is expressed with the Virginia Highway Department's proposal to assign <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />another primary route number to that portion of present Route 57 which extends <br /> <br />along Chatham Road from East Church Street to the City's east corporate limits: <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia State Route 57 has been in existence for many years <br />in Martinsville extending from the West Corporate Limits eastward <br />along Fayette Street, Church Street, Market Street, Commonwealth <br />Boulevard and Chatham Road to the East Corporate Limits; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a portion of State Route 57 has been relocated in Henry <br />County whereby said Route 57 now intersects with U.S. Route 58 <br />approximately one half mile east of the City's East Corporate Limits; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation is <br />interested in changing the route designation of the section of State <br />Route 57 that follows Chatham Road in the City and in Henry County to <br />the relocated section of Chatham Road (State Route 57) at Redd's <br />Store to a new primary route designation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Henry County Board of Supervisors has approved the pro- <br />posed change in primary route designation; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled, that said Council approves <br />the change in the primary route designation along Chatham Road from <br />State Route 57 to another primary route designation beginning at <br />Church Street and extending to the East Corporate Limits as deter- <br />mined by the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation. <br /> <br />In acknowledging receipt of five bids recently received for the expansion of <br /> <br />the City's wastewater treatment plant from 6mgd to 8mgd, Council accepted the <br /> <br />recommendation of its consulting engineers, Wiley & Wilson, that the bid of <br /> <br />English Construction Company, being the lowest bid in the amount of <br /> <br />$1,458,000.00, plus $23,000.00 for "Alternate B-3" for a lagoon liner, be <br /> <br />')9' <br />:) . ~ <br />
