58

TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1986

Council was apprised of ~he special mee~ing of Council with ~he Ci~y School

Board, scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 1986, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in City

Hall; however, as a resul~ of objections expressed by members of Council ~o any

proposed mee~lngs of less than ~he "whole" Council with less than the "whole"

School Board, such a meeting scheduled for September 4th was cancelled.

Council unanimously accepted City Manager Brown's recommendation ~hat because

of lower-than-anticipated bids recently received and accepted for the City's

1986-87 pavement resurfacing program, the amount of $43,000.00 now expected to

be available from the $217,781.00 budgeted for this program be applied to

and/or made available for the following two street resurfacing projects, viz.,

(1) Starling Avenue, from Memorial Boulevard northeastward to the Norfolk &

Western Railway, and (2) Chatham Heights Road, from Banks Road to the northeast

corporate limits. Mr. Brown reported that these two projects are in need of

resurfacing but were among street projec~s eliminated to meet budget estimates.

Pursuant to the requirements of Subsection (a)(l) of Section 2.1-344 of the

CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and

unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive

Session to consider nominees for appointment and/or reappointment to the City's

Industrial Development Authority as well as to consider personnel matters. At

the conclusion of ~his Executive Session, Council reconvened into regular

session but took no action on matters considered in Executive Session.

Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned.

,.,,"'-~ ... ~ i\... ).
