,0-3 TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 1986 expressed their appreciation of Mrs. Stone's dedication and willingness to continue serving the citizens in this capacity. Mrs. Stone thanked the Council for the opportunity to serve on the School Board, stating her desire to continue serving with the School Board and the school system because the strong administration, the recent personnel changes and the long-range planning should prove beneficial in continuing to provide an excellent education for the children of Martinsville. There being no one else to comment or make nominations for this position, Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed, noting that an appointment would be made at the June 24th Council meeting. Upon motion by Vice-Mayor Severt, duly seconded by Councilman Groden, the Council approved (Councilman Oakes opposed the motion) the amendments to the Metropolitan Regional Comprehensive Water and Wastewater Disposal Plan and Update as submitted by the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, which update included a change in the proposed capacity of the proposed third sewage treatment plant from 4 MGD to 6 MGD to accommodate projected industrial growth in the Martinsville and Henry County area. City Manager Brown noted that the approval of these amendments would not affect the proposed expansion of the City's plant by 2 MGD. When plans for the expansion are complete then an amendment will be made to the Plan. Councilman Oakes expressed concern about voting for the Plan because it did not include our proposed expansion and, therefore, opposed the motion. City Manager stated that WPPDC did not have a composite updated plan at this time but would have one within 18 months. '".,_.",."'-,-------"-------,.._~.,_._.__. .
