02 '

TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1986

meeting of January 14, 1986, to make certain physical improvements in the City Trea-

surer's office, and to reimburse the Boaz Foundation for the cost incurred in instal-

ling a required sprinkler system at the former Joseph Martin School building, now

leased to the Foundation for operation of the Virginia Museum of Natural History.

There being no objections registered to said proposed amendment, Council unanimously

amended said budget by appropriating the following sums for the following line-item

purposes:

GENERAL FUND
City Hall Building Maintenance
01 430201 7009000
Physical Plant Expansion . .
Joseph Martin Bldg. Robert E. Barrett and Jack I.

Stultz seeking the closing and abandonment of an alleyway which presently extends

from Hairston Street between petitioners' properties at 611 Hairston Street (Lot 13A)

and 609 Hairston Street (Lot 49), respectively, being on the northeast side of Hair-

ston Street, to the south side of Orchard Street. The record notes that the Planning

Commission, in considering this petition recently, has recommended that the alleyway

be closed and abandoned only from the northeast side of Hairston Street for the dis-

tance equalling the depth of Lot No. 13A. The record also notes that City Manager

Brown observed that, from both the public's and City's standpoint, there appears to

be no need of keeping any portion of this alleyway open; and, too, as to the effect

of a partial or complete closing on the City's Comprehensive Plan and the review pro-

cesses connected therewith, Mr. Brown recommended--and Council concurred--that the

Planning Commission review this matter and its action thereon at the Commission's
