96

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1986

months hence, Council unanimously appropriated the sum of $8,700.00 to finance the

cost of the physical improvements (subject to a public hearing required to amend

the City's 1985-86 budget to reflect this action). Meanwhile, Council concurred

with Councilman Oakes' recommendation that an audit team (composed of Councilman

Groden, City Manager Brown, and a yet-to-be-named member) be established, subject

to a study of this proposal by Councilman Groden and City Manager Brown.

Council also concurred with City Manager Brown's proposed budget development sched-

ule for fiscal 1986-87, with adoption of the City's 1986-87 budget scheduled for

May 27, 1986, but no later than June 10, 1986.

Council acknowledged receipt of a status report on the City's group medical in sur-

ance program and benefits (as prepared by City Manager Brown), noting that the City's

Insurance Committee will supplement this report and submit specific recommendations

(regarding this program) at Council's forthcoming January 28th meeting.

By report dated January 8, 1986, City Manager Brown informed Council that, pursuant

to invitation extended by the City, four bids have been received (ranging from

$149,000.00 submitted by Bennett-Nichols Construction, Inc., to $160,321.00 sub-

mitted by Copes Construction Company) for five of seven specific improvements-

renovations within the City's Municipal Building recommended by City Manager Brown

and included in the City's adopted 1985-86 budget; however, as pointed out by Mr.

Brown, the cost of all seven items was initially estimated at $148,200.00 (to be

financed from Revenue-Sharing funds), which included $21,000.00 as the City's 50%

share of the cost of installing air conditioning*for the City Jail and $10,000.00*

to install an adequate sound system for the Council Chamber and on which (these

------
------

*

see correction and addendum on page 199 of these minutes.
