191

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1986

and memory of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., former nationally-known civil

rights leader who was assassintated in April of 1968 and in whose honor and memory

the United States Congress has recently designated January 20th as a Federal legal

holiday. Council agreed to consider this request later in this meeting in connec-

tion with City Manager Brown's proposal that a net of two holidays be added to the

current nine holidays for City employees.

The Reverend Mr. Echols also requested that Council give consideration to estab-

lishing a Summer Youth Employment Program for the City. Mayor Cole, on behalf of

Council, indicated that this matter would be included on a future Council agenda

for consideration.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that Council

approve Mr. Roger L. Young's petition seeking the rezoning of Lot No.9, situated

at 112 Starling Avenue, from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional", Council called

for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on said petition at Council's

forthcoming January 28th meeting.

Also, in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that

Council approve Mr. Bob P. White's petition seeking the rezoning from "R-9 Resi-

dential" to"R-6 Residential" of a certain 18-acre tract of land situated on the

south side of East Church Street in the vicinity of Salmons Street as well as a

Special-Use Permit for said tract to allow for the development of a proposed 86-unit

mobile home court thereon, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing on

these requests to be conducted at Council's forthcoming January 28th meeting.
