<br />TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1987 <br /> <br />following authorizing resolution: <br /> <br />will be required of the City in this project, Council unanimously adopted the <br /> <br />member of its Board of Directors. With the understanding that no matching funds <br /> <br />meeting were Ms. Barbara Lowry, its Administrator, and Mr. Dennis Walker, a <br /> <br />.,- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Housing and Commu- <br />nity Development has issued a notice of funding availability and has <br />requested proposals under the VIRGINIA SHELTER GRANTS PROGRAM _ II; and <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, assistance is needed to adequately address the shelter needs <br />of homeless persons displaced due to domestic violence in the City of <br />Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an application for a grant under this program has been <br />prepared; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, George W. Brown, City Manager, can act on behalf of the City <br />of Martinsville and will sign all necessary documents required to <br />complete the grant transaction; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a one-for-one local match of grant funds, as required under <br />the program, will be provided in the amount of $86,775; now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />that it hereby authorizes George W. Brown, City Manager, to apply for <br />and accept a grant in the amount of $50,000 and enter into a Grant <br />Agreement with the Department of Housing and Community Development and <br />perform any and all responsibilities in relation to such Agreement; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that it hereby agrees to provide <br />a sub-grant to Citizens Against Family Violence to operate the funded <br />project and agrees to monitor and oversee their activities as pre- <br />scribed by the State. <br /> <br />(for 1987), Council was informed that the City and its employees earned a 1987 <br /> <br />By report from Ms. Rachel H. Ross, United Way Campaign Coordinator for the City <br /> <br />United Way Banner Award in recognition of the fact that pledges/contributions <br /> <br />from City employees for 1987 exceeded their prior year's pledges/contributions <br /> <br />other employees for their efforts and generosity in this cause. <br /> <br />by ten percent.
