<br />~, I)' <br />- , <br /> <br />TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8. 1987 <br /> <br />improvements in insurance rates for public bodies in the foreseeable future. <br /> <br />Accordingly, upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council <br /> <br />accepted said proposal in the form and amounts recommended by City Manager <br /> <br />Brown. <br /> <br />Council cancelled its regular semi-monthly meeting scheduled for Tuesday. <br /> <br />December 22, 1987, and, in so doing. determined that, if necessary, a special <br /> <br />meeting could be called to consider and act upon any matters requiring urgent <br /> <br />attention. <br /> <br />Council also called for a special meeting to be conducted by Council on <br /> <br />Wednesday. January 6, 1988, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 <br /> <br />P.M.. for the purpose of considering and/or establishing a policy relating to <br /> <br />the usage or reserving of various fund surpluses. Also. at this special <br /> <br />meeting, Council agreed to consider a proposed ordinance by which. under Section <br /> <br />14.1-47.2 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended). the Council may <br /> <br />establish annual salaries for the Mayor and each member of Council, <br /> <br />notwithstanding the current provisions therefor in the City's Charter. <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized City Manager Brown to execute all necessary <br /> <br />documents required for a grant of $50,000.00 from the Commonwealth of Virginia's <br /> <br />Department of Housing & Community Development, including applying for and <br /> <br />accepting said grant. to finance the cost of renovating and expanding the <br /> <br />emergency shelter operated by Citizens Against Family Violence for abused <br /> <br />spouses and their children.
