Council was informed that, although all jobs

contemplated for this project are under contract or will be under contract on or

before the contract's present expiration date of December 2, 1987, ninety days

therefrom will be required for completion of the contracted jobs.

Council directed City Manager Brown to schedule a special "work-session" meeting

during the first week in January, 1988, to begin after lunch, for the purpose of

considering and/or revising a policy governing the investing and/or using and/or

reserving of City funds which might be considered available. Council suggested,

meanwhile, that Councilmen Cole and Groden study the Report on Audit for the

City's fiscal year ended June 30, 1987, as prepared by Ford, Hogg & Cobbe,

CPA's, to be formally presented to Council at its forthcoming November 24th

meeting.

Council acknowledged receipt of a brochure, prepared by the Blue Ridge/Piedmont

Cultural Consortium, highlighting by description and a map the various cultural

and historical places of interest within the counties of Franklin, Henry and

Patrick.

Having received a favorable recommendation from the Planning Commission on Mr.

Julius C. Murrell's petition seeking the vacating and abandonment of a small

triangular section of excess right-of-way (consisting of approximately 412

square feet) situated off the west side of Market Street near its intersection

with Fayette Street, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be

conducted by Council on this petition at Council's forthcoming November 24th

regular meeting.
