<br />,': .) <br />,",'-.I <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JULY 14, 1987 <br /> <br />unimproved section of Boden Street, which petition was recently forwarded to the <br /> <br />Council by the Planning Commission with a recommendation--subject to certain <br /> <br />stipulations included by the Commission--that Council approve the petition. There <br /> <br />being no objections registered by any citizen to the petition, Mayor Oakes declared <br /> <br />the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br /> <br />Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendations in this matter and, in so <br /> <br />doing, adopted the following ordinance authorizing and directing the vacating and <br /> <br />abandonment of said unimproved section, subject to the Commission's stipulations: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of July, 1987, that an <br />unimproved section of Boden Street (being approximately 151 feet in length <br />and being the westernmost end of said Boden Street) be--and is hereby <br />declared--vacated and abandoned, subject to dedication of a fifty-foot <br />turnaround, using an adjacent ten-foot alleyway and subject to presentation <br />of final maps showing the turnaround and the street section hereby being <br />abandoned, which maps shall require the review and approval of the City's <br />Engineering Division and shall be duly recorded. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after July 15, 1987. <br /> <br />To comply more fully with the requirements of the Virginia Department of <br /> <br />Transportation (viz., to assure the Commonwealth of Virginia and its Department of <br /> <br />Transportation that the City will pay its five per cent share), Council unanimously <br /> <br />adopted the following resolution (which supersedes a similar resolution adopted by <br /> <br />Council at its regular meeting held June 23, 1987) requesting the Virginia <br /> <br />Department of Transportation to establish an urban system highway project designed <br /> <br />to improve the vertical clearance of Liberty Street Underpass of the Southern <br /> <br />Railway Company: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Tultex Corporation is proposing to expand its industrial facili- <br />ties through the construction of a distribution center in Henry County <br />abutting State Route 108 near the North Corporate Limits of the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Tultex Corporation expansion is extremely important <br />to the economic development and growth of Martinsville and Henry County, as <br />well as to the State of Virginia; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, certain street and h~ghway improvements situated both in <br />Martinsville and Henry County are needed to meet transportation needs <br />resulting from the proposed Tu1tex Corporation expansion; and <br />
