<br />TUESDAY, JULY 14, 1987 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia, <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, July 14, 1987, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of the Council were present, <br /> <br />viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; <br /> <br />Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors present, <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />the Council--through Mayor Oakes and City Manager George W. Brown--recognized the <br /> <br />following citizens and presented tokens of the Council's appreciation to them for <br /> <br />their years of services as members of the following boards: <br /> <br />Mr. Richard L. Gipple, Social Services Administrative Board, 1979-1987; <br /> <br />Mr. Ronald A. Brugge, City School Board, 1981-1987; <br /> <br />Mr. Rieves S. Hodnett (former Mayor and member of City Council), Patrick <br />Henry Community College Board, 1976-1987; <br /> <br />Mrs. Virginia S. Windle, Patrick Henry Community College Board, 1976-1987; <br /> <br />Mr. William C. Cole, Jr. (currently a member of City Council and former <br />Mayor of the City of Martinsville), Central Piedmont Employment Consortium <br />Policy Board, 1983-1987; and <br /> <br />Mr. Hal G. Prillaman (in absentia), Blue Ridge Regional Library Board, <br />1977-1987. <br /> <br />Council also recognized--and presented a token of its appreciation to--Mr. F. Buren <br /> <br />Jamison, who retired as the City's Assistant Fire Chief as of June 30, 1987, after <br /> <br />having served in the City's Fire Department for some thirty-one years. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as <br /> <br />recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held June 23, 1987. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />petition recently filed by Mr. & Mrs. Carroll D. Hinkle (through their counsel, Mr. <br /> <br />Hoyett L. Barrow, Jr., Attorney at Law) seeking the vacating and abandonment of an <br />
