Nays: (0) None. <br /> <br />Council heard the monthly update from the Martinsville-Henry County <br /> <br />Economic Development Corporation. Mark Heath handed out a new brochure <br /> <br />and explained a partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia in a special <br /> <br />advertising section of Fortune Magazine. Fortune Magazine reaches four <br /> <br />million readers a month. The brochure also included two new ad samples <br /> <br />focusing on the racing industry. The final planning for the virtual shell <br /> <br />building has been completed and it should be going into final format by the end <br /> <br />of month. The shell building in the Patriot Centre is in the final design phase <br /> <br />and hopefully will be ready to break ground before the end of the year. <br /> <br />The next step in the retail study recently done by Buxton is a listing of <br /> <br />75-100 potential companies that might fit our area and then pick 20 that we <br /> <br />will want to contact and try to interest them in our sites. We will go through <br /> <br />the same process with the hospitality side. A seminar for small businesses <br /> <br />relating to local and state procurement practices will be held in September and <br /> <br />one in October focusing on federal practices.
