<br />--:I .. <br />~ . ~ <br />-~ / <br /> <br />January 24, 2006 <br /> <br />Wayne Knox, Director of Community Development gave a brief history of <br /> <br />prior CDBG projects in the City and indicated they are now in the planning <br /> <br />grant stage for Cherry Street area and this is the first required public hearing <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />to receive public input. The second public hearing will be for approval of the <br /> <br />application. After questions by Council and further discussion, Mayor Cobbe <br /> <br />opened the public hearing. Sammy Wright, owner of Church Street Auto, <br /> <br />Harvey Compton, of Knollwood Place and owner of property in the Cherry <br /> <br />Street area, and Kenneth Swanson, a resident of Cherry Street, all expressed <br /> <br />appreciation and excitement about the project. Mayor Cobbe then declared the <br /> <br />public hearing closed. <br /> <br />Council considered business from the floor. Paul Ashbrook, Co-Chair of <br /> <br />the 2006 American Cancer Society Relay for Life, requested Council to <br /> <br />designate Friday, May 12, as Purple Day in the City, encouraging citizens to <br /> <br />wear purple, and the week of May 12-19 as Celebrate Life Week. During that <br /> <br />week, they would like to decorate the lampposts with purple ribbons, put up a <br /> <br />banner and encourage businesses and residences to also display purple <br /> <br />ribbons. <br /> <br />Matt Hankins, Communications Manager, announced that the Coastal <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Plain League released their baseball schedule today and that the Mustangs' <br /> <br />first game would be on Wednesday, May 31, an away game. The first home <br /> <br />game will be on June 1, with 28 home games being played this year. The <br /> <br />season will end on August 9 for the regular season with playoffs scheduled for <br />
