June 22,2004 <br /> <br />Butch Hamlet, Chairman, Coalition for Economic Progress, presented an update <br /> <br />report on the group's status. The official name of the organization will be the <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation. The role of the board <br /> <br />has been defined, and a total of $3 million has been raised. An executive seamh firm <br /> <br />has been hired. They plan to hire a marketing firm to establish a branding initiative. <br /> <br />The bylaws are being amended, and office space has been secured on the second floor <br /> <br />of SunTrust Bank on Chumh Street in Martinsville. They plan to hire a temporary, part- <br /> <br />time staff person to accomplish initial administrative tasks, such as securing a post <br /> <br />office box, bank accounts, and surety bonds, among other necessary items. Vice <br /> <br />Mayor Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded <br /> <br />and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 4 - 0 - 1; Yeas (4) - <br /> <br />Cobbe, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Abstention (1) - Dallas: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Henry County, the City of Martinsville, the Martinsville-Henry <br />County Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber's Partnership for Economic <br />Growth (CPEG), and The Harvest Foundation came together to form the <br />Coalition for Economic Progress; and <br />WHEREAS, the Coalition's role and responsibility expanded to include <br />Goal 1 of the Comprehensive Economic Strategy developed for the <br />community by Market Street Services, Inc., and <br />WHEREAS, Henry County and the City of Martinsville have agreed to <br />merge their respective economic development offices into the Coalition; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Henry County and the City of Martinsville authorized the <br />Coalition to use the framework of the former Martinsville-Henry County <br />Economic Development Corporation, trading as Patrick Henry <br />Development Council, including the use of remaining Housing and Urban <br />Development grant funds for marketing; and <br />WHEREAS, it is understood that the trade name may change; and <br />WHEREAS, the Coalition for Economic Progress shall consist of nine <br />representatives, including a business representative appointed by CPEG; <br />a business representative appointed by the Chamber; the Henry County <br />Administrator; the Martinsville City Manager; a business representative <br />appointed by the Henry County Board of Supervisors; a business <br />representative appointed by the Martinsville City Council; the president of <br /> <br /> <br />
