June 22,2004 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under his tenure, Martinsville has made the transition to <br />Standards of Learning-based accreditation of schools, and has <br />successfully reached accreditation goals in all city schools; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Trollinger's commitment has been recognized with the <br />2002 Regional Superintendent of the Year award and the Virginia <br />Museum of Natural History's 2000 Matthew Fontaine Maury Award for <br />Distinguished Service; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Trollinger has been a forward-thinking, progressive- <br />minded leader who demonstrates his dedication to students, teachers and <br />parents through active involvement in curriculum development; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Ira R. Trollinger has announced that he will resign June <br />30, 2004 to take on new challenges and responsibilities in North Carolina; <br />now, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsvilie, in regular <br />session assembled June 22, 2004, that it does hereby express gratitude to <br />Ira Robert Trollinger, Ph.D., for his eight years of service to the City of <br />Martinsville, its children, its parents and schools, and does with this <br />resolution call upon its citizens to thank Dr. Trollinger for the remarkable <br />strides forward made by the school system during his tenure. <br /> <br />Council recognized the following City employees receiving Service Awards from <br /> <br />April to June 2004: <br /> <br />30 years - Sam Owens, Electric Department <br />25 years - Eddie Flood, Public Works Department <br />20 years - Larry Handy, Sheriff's Office; Howard Martin, Sheriff's <br />Office; Yvonne Gravely, Housing; Richard Hodges, Sheriff's Office <br />15 years - Rayburn Woods, Public Works; Kermit Gilbert, Electric <br />Department; Donald Thompson, Public Works <br />10 years - Thomas Harned, Economic Development Office; <br />Cynthia Dickerson, Treasurer's Office; Brenda Prillaman, City <br />Manager's Office <br />5 years - Charlie Gravely, Purchasing; Scott Collins, Public Works; <br />Patrick Agee, Police Department; Robert Haynes, Police <br />Department; Fred Gordon, Community Development; Robert <br />Coleman, Police Department; James Lovell, Police Department <br /> <br />Council recognized the following nominees for the 2004 Second Quarter Service <br /> <br />Excellence Award: Ted Anderson, Fire; Richard Barrow, Police; Steve Cannaday, <br />Public Works; William Goad, Police; and Rhonda Gregory, Public Works. Mr. <br /> <br />Cannaday was named the Quarterly Winner. <br /> <br /> <br />
