Mamh 23, 2004 <br /> <br /> Council recognized the following nominees for the 2004 First Quarter Service <br />Excellence Award: Billy Akers, Fire; Linda Conover, Finance; Brian Mabe, Public <br />Works; and Todd Owen, Fire. Mr. Mabe was named the winner. <br /> <br /> Council recognized the following 2003 Quarterly Winners eligible for the 2003 <br />Annual Service Excellence Award: Don Chappell, Public Works; Tony Beal, Fire; and <br />Steve Joyce, Police. The fourth winner, Angle Sanders, is now attending college and <br />no longer with the City. Mr. Beal was named the winner. <br /> <br /> Wade Bartlett, Director of Finance, presented the financial report for month <br />ending February 29, 2004. <br /> <br /> Council conducted the Neighborhood Focus Meeting for the Northside/Chatham <br />Heights area. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service Representative, presented a <br />customer concerns report, citing 189 actual complaints during the past year, of which <br />167 are resolved and 22 are pending corrective action. <br /> <br /> Council reconsidered, on first reading, of Ordinance 2004-5 amending Section <br />12-11 of the City Code relating to reimbursement of expenses incurred in responding to <br />DUI and other traffic incidents. Eric Monday, City Attorney, reviewed the ordinance. <br />Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, stated that the Cities of Roanoke, Richmond, and <br />Virginia Beach have already adopted such amendment. Based on 2003 statistics, this <br />Ordinance would have generated $15,300 in fines. Vice Mayor Roop move to adopt, on <br />first reading, Ordinance 2004-5; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following roll call vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yays (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, <br /> <br />Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br />101 <br /> <br /> <br />
