July 22, 2003 <br /> <br /> Council considered conducting a public hearing and adopting an Ordinance on a <br />request by The Lester Group to rezone nine (9) parcels on Townes Avenue and N. <br />Moss Street from RP-1 Residential-Professional to M-1 Industrial. Wayne Knox, <br />Planning, Zoning, & Housing Manager, reviewed the potential uses of commercial and <br />industrial zoning. He reported that the Planning Commission held a public hearing on <br />June 19, 2003, with one citizen speaking in opposition, and voted unanimously to <br />recommend approval. Mayor Teague declared the Public Hearing open. Monroe H. <br />Ridenhour, Ill, of The Lester Group, stated that the houses located on these parcels are <br />unoccupied. A contract does exist with a developer for Walgreen's Pharmacy with <br />several contingencies. Mayor Teague declared the Public Hearing dosed. Council <br />Member Ferrill moved to adopt, on emergency basis, the following Ordinance; the <br />motion was duly seconded and carried by the following roll call vote, with all members <br />voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, FerriII, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, in regular session assembled July 22, 2003, that in order <br /> to assure compliance with Virginia Code Section 15.2-2200, it is <br /> stated that the purpose for which this Ordinance is initiated is to <br /> promote the public health, safety, convenience and welfare of its <br /> citizens an~l to plan for the future development of the community, <br /> that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be-- and is <br /> hereby -- amended to the extent that property located at 122, 124, <br /> 126, 128, 130, 132, 134 Townes Avenue and 201 N. Moss Street <br /> (known as parcels 22 (05)00/0-7 and 22(01 )00/61 on the Tax Map <br /> of the City of Martinsville) is hereby rezoned from RP-1 Residential- <br /> Professional to M-1 Industrial and, <br /> BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency <br /> existing, this ordinance shall be in force immediately upon adoption. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor.
