June 25,2002 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone designation continues to play a <br />vital role in promoting the expansion of existing firms as well as the <br />location of new firms within Martinsville; and <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone incentives have significantly <br />contributed to the City's marketing efforts and helped create a <br />number of jobs; and <br />WHEREAS, these efforts have helped offset the loss of jobs due to <br />plant closures, downsizing, modernization, global competition and <br />economic downturns; and <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone Amendment will allow for the <br />deletion of one of the existing incentives and the implementation of <br />one new incentive, as well as the revision of existing and the <br />inclusion of several additional Standard Industry Classification <br />(SIC) codes; now, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia in regular session assembled June 25, 2002, that it hereby <br />authorizes the City Manager to submit all information needed to <br />apply for the Enterprise Zone Amendment and to continue carrying <br />out all administrative and reporting requirements on its behalf. <br /> <br />Wade Bartlett, Director of Finance, presented the financial report for month <br /> <br />ending May 31, 2002. <br /> <br />Council Member Dallas moved to adopt the following Consent Agenda item; the <br /> <br />motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members present <br /> <br />voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />Set a public hearing for July 9, 2002 on a request from Lacy E. Brown to <br />rezone property located at 120 Maple Street, Tax Map ID 33(0)08 of the City <br />of Martinsville, from M-2 Industrial to R-6 Residential <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Teague expressed appreciation to current School Board Members <br /> <br />Joseph Finley and Lynn Ward, thanked retiring School Board Members Chuck Davies <br /> <br />and Bennie Gray, and stated that he is looking forward to working with new School <br /> <br />Board Members Nancy Baker and Jim Johnson. Council Member Dallas thanked the <br /> <br />City Manager and staff for paving of the streets. Mayor Crabtree thanked City <br /> <br /> <br />
