June 11,2002 <br /> <br /> Council conducted a Public Hearing and considered adoption of an Ordinance on <br />a request from the City of Martinsville to amend the Proposed Land Use Map of the <br />Comprehensive Plan to designate 925 Rives Road as Commercial rather than its <br />present designation of Industrial. Mayor Crabtree declared the Public Hearing open; he <br />declared the Public Hearing closed. Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the <br />following Ordinance, on emergency basis; the motion was duly seconded and carried by <br />the following roll call vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, <br />Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, in regular session assembled, that in order to assure <br /> compliance with Virginia Code §15.2-2200, it is stated that the <br /> public purpose fo~' which this Ordinance is initiated is to improve the <br /> public health, safety, convenience, and welfare of the citizens and <br /> to plan for the future development of the community, that the <br /> Proposed Land Use Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be-- <br /> and is hereby--amended to the extent that an area located at 925 <br /> Rives Road, specifically identified on the Tax Map of the City of <br /> Martinsville as Parcel 53(4)1, is designated as being for <br /> Commemial usage. <br /> BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency <br /> existing, this ordinance shall be in force immediately upon adoption. <br /> <br /> Council conducted a Public Hearing and considered approval, on first reading, of <br />Ordinance 2002-4 on a request by the Planning Commission to amend Zoning <br />Ordinance Section XII, Commemial Districts. Mr. Hayfield stated that the purpose of the <br />amendments is to increase user-friendliness and update terminology. Council Member <br />Ferrill expressed concern with the situation of neighborhoods in transition; Mr. Hayfield <br />replied that the issue would be considered by the Planning Commission within the next <br />two months. Mayor Crabtree declared the Public Hearing open; he declared the Public <br />Hearing closed. Council Member Roop moved to approve, on first reading, Ordinance <br /> <br /> <br />
