August 14, 2001 WHEREAS, Renee has made significant contributions since her employment, such as job fairs, water campaign, physical and technological improvements of Council Chambers, MINET marketing program, Workforce Investment Act program, Virginia Tobacco Commission, tourism, various brochures; and WHEREAS, Renee has accepted employment with the City of Danville, Virginia, to work in their economic development program; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council and the Administration of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled on August 14, 2001, that we hereby express our appreciation for Renee's dedicated service to the City of Martinsville and wish her success in her future career endeavors. Betty Jane Simpson, of the Blue Ridge Regional Library Board, introduced Hal Hubener, the new Director of the Library. Council considered business from the floor. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 Park Street, introduced Virginia Hutcherson, and stated that Mrs. Hutcherson's house will be torn down and requested assistance with finding her new housing. Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, replied that the City has been working with Mrs. Hutcherson for years and that a lot has been identified. However, the lot is zoned industrial and a request will need to go through the Planning Commission for rezoning. Council considered adoption of a Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to act favorably on the proposal by Branch Highways to build U. S. Route 58 (from Stuart to 1-77 in Carroll County) under the Public Private Transportation Act. Thomas Harned, Economic Development Director, stated that this proposal would speed the process up with no cost to the City. Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None:
