3.00 <br /> <br />June 26, 2001 <br /> <br />Council considered the following matters related to the City's Fiscal Year 2001- <br /> <br />2001 Budget: <br /> <br />Adoption, on emergency basis, of Ordinance 2001-4 establishing the <br />City's Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Budget and tax rates. Vice Mayor Teague <br />moved to adopt the following Ordinance No. 2001-4 [Attachment A], on <br />emergency basis; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following roll call vote, with all members present voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas <br />(4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br />Adoption of a Resolution agreeing to participation by City employees in <br />the Virginia Retirement System's full unreduced early retirement program <br />for employees 50 years of age with 30 years of service. Council Member <br />Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly <br />seconded and carried by the following roll call vote, with all members <br />present voting: Vote 3 - 1; Yeas (3) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop; Nays (1) - <br />Teague: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1999 Virginia General Assembly enacted <br />legislation which was approved by the Governor as set out in Title <br />51.1, Chapter 1, Section 51.1-153(B)(2) Of the Code of Virginia to <br />become effective July 1, 1999, allowing current and future <br />members of the Virginia Retirement System to become eligible for <br />unreduced early retirement benefits at age 50 with at least 30 years <br />of service; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville, a political subdivision of the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia (5-5223), acting by and through the <br />Martinsville City Council in special session assembled June 26, <br />2001, does hereby elect to have those of its employees who are <br />regularly employed full time on a salary basis and whose tenure is <br />not restricted as to temporary or provisional appointment, or future <br />employees who shall become members of the Virginia Retirement <br />System, to become eligible for full unreduced early retirement <br />benefits at age 50 with 30 years of service. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that Earl B. <br />Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, and Johnathan B. Phillips, Clerk of <br />Council of the City of Martinsville, are hereby authorized and <br />directed in the name of the City of Martinsville to execute any <br />required contract in order that said employees of the City of <br />Martinsville may become eligible for unreduced early retirement <br />benefits at age 50 with 30 years of service under the Virginia <br />Retirement System. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution establishing and prioritizing the <br /> <br />City's request to the VDOT's Six-Year Improvement Program for funding four urban <br /> <br /> <br />
