Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution; the <br /> <br />motion was duly seconded and carried by the' following vote, with all members present <br /> <br />voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville recognizes that, <br />as a result of changes in traffic patterns and development <br />throughout and around the City, the City's highway construction <br />needs have changed; and <br />WHEREAS, at a City Council session held on June 26, 2001, it was <br />agreed by the Council of the City of Martinsville that the City's list of <br />urban projects contained in the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation's Six-Year Improvement Program needed to be <br />revised to reflect a change in construction needs; now, therefore, <br />BE. IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia in regular session assembled June 26, 2001, that said <br />Council requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to <br />establish in the following priority, four (4) urban system highway <br />projects, as follows: <br />(1) Complete the Liberty Street (Route 174) /Clearview Drive <br />improvement project comprised of the following elements: <br />· Improvements to the intersection of Liberty Street and <br />Clearview Drive, and improvements to Clearview Drive from Liberty <br />Street to Barrows Mill Road; <br /> · Improvements to Liberty Street north from York Street to the <br /> Corporate Limits; <br /> · Improvements to Liberty Street from Commonwealth <br /> Boulevard to Clearview Drive; <br /> · Improvements to Clearview Drive from Barrows Mill Road to <br /> the entrance of Clearview Business Park; and <br /> (2) Widen and realign the section of Fayette Street (Route 57) <br /> from Pine Hall Road west to the Corporate Limits including curb, <br /> gutter and sidewalk, and to replace an N&W Railroad overpass that <br /> has severely restricted clearances; and <br /> (3) Repair the Starling Avenue Bridge located at the crossing of <br /> the Norfolk and Western Railway near the intersection of Starling <br /> Avenue and Aaron Street; and <br /> (4) Extend Commonwealth Boulevard east to an intersection <br /> with East Church Street (US 58); and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Martinsville, Virginia, that the City of Martinsville agrees to pay its <br /> share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, right-of-way, and <br /> construction of these projects in accordance with Section 33.1-44 of <br /> the Code of Virginia, and that, if the City of Martinsville <br /> subsequently elects to cancel these projects, the City of Martinsville <br /> <br /> <br />
