June 26,2001 highway projects. Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the' following vote, with all members present voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville recognizes that, as a result of changes in traffic patterns and development throughout and around the City, the City's highway construction needs have changed; and WHEREAS, at a City Council session held on June 26, 2001, it was agreed by the Council of the City of Martinsville that the City's list of urban projects contained in the Virginia Department of Transportation's Six-Year Improvement Program needed to be revised to reflect a change in construction needs; now, therefore, BE. IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia in regular session assembled June 26, 2001, that said Council requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to establish in the following priority, four (4) urban system highway projects, as follows: (1) Complete the Liberty Street (Route 174) /Clearview Drive improvement project comprised of the following elements: · Improvements to the intersection of Liberty Street and Clearview Drive, and improvements to Clearview Drive from Liberty Street to Barrows Mill Road; · Improvements to Liberty Street north from York Street to the Corporate Limits; · Improvements to Liberty Street from Commonwealth Boulevard to Clearview Drive; · Improvements to Clearview Drive from Barrows Mill Road to the entrance of Clearview Business Park; and (2) Widen and realign the section of Fayette Street (Route 57) from Pine Hall Road west to the Corporate Limits including curb, gutter and sidewalk, and to replace an N&W Railroad overpass that has severely restricted clearances; and (3) Repair the Starling Avenue Bridge located at the crossing of the Norfolk and Western Railway near the intersection of Starling Avenue and Aaron Street; and (4) Extend Commonwealth Boulevard east to an intersection with East Church Street (US 58); and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, that the City of Martinsville agrees to pay its share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, right-of-way, and construction of these projects in accordance with Section 33.1-44 of the Code of Virginia, and that, if the City of Martinsville subsequently elects to cancel these projects, the City of Martinsville
