June 26,2001 <br /> <br />Works; Leon Towarnicki, Public Works; Dennis Hairston, Water Resources; Paul Roop, <br />Electric; Jim Minter, Police; and Tim Powell, Fire. City Manager Reynolds announced <br />Mr. Powell as the winner and presented him with a $50 check. <br /> <br /> Council considered conducting a?T0wn Meeting. Brenda Prillaman, Customer <br />Service, presented'handouts of customer"concerns from the high school area <br /> <br />neighborhood. Bennie Gray, of 914 Vine Street, inquired about the status of the Liberty <br />Street/Clearview Drive project. City Manager Reynolds reported that Staff met today <br />with the Virginia Department of Transportation [VDOT]. The main project is scheduled <br />to bid in the fall of 2002. VDOT has experienced downsizing which may result in a <br />difficult time with right-of-way acquisition. The State has not allocated enough funding <br />for the project to be completed on time. Mr. Gray expressed, also, concern regarding <br />the condition of rental properties in the City. John Sanders, of 208 Starling Avenue, <br />asked if the City's economic development contingency plan would be unveiled tonight. <br />City Manager Reynolds replied that the dissolution process of the Patrick Henry <br />Development Council [PHDC] is difficult and may require a transition of 90 to 120 days. <br />He added that the PHDC is still in operation, working on the Workforce Profile Study, <br />and the City still has a Community Development Department. <br /> <br /> Council continued the Public Hearing to receive applicants for one three-year <br /> appointment beginning July 1, 2001, to the City's School Board. The following citizens <br /> <br />submitted their names for consideration: <br />and Troy L. Rakes, of 938 Mulberry Road. <br /> <br />Lynn R. Ward, of 1610 Meadowview Lane, <br />Mayor Crabtree declared the Public Hearing <br /> <br />closed.
