February 27, 2001 <br /> <br />requested an addendum to the budget process to include the costs of high school <br /> <br />practices and games. <br /> <br />City Manager Reynolds stated, "Gary Via, Purchasing Director, will be leaving the <br /> <br />City tomorrow to share his talents with another community. We wish him the best." Mr. <br /> <br />Via replied, "Thank you for the opportunity to work for the City since October 1989? <br /> <br />Council considered conducting a Public Hearing and adopting an Ordinance to <br /> <br />abandon a 30' by 500' right-of-way known as Townes Street located west of Franklin <br /> <br />Street and north of Commonwealth Boulevard, as requested by Commonwealth <br /> <br />Boulevard Associates, LLC. Wayne Knox, Planning, Zoning, & Housing Manager, <br /> <br />stated, "The Planning Commission heard no opposing comments in their meeting of <br /> <br />February 15, 2001, and voted unanimously to recommend this action." Mayor Crabtree <br /> <br />declared the Public Hearing open. With no response, he declared it closed. Vice Mayor <br /> <br />Teague moved to adopt the following Ordinance, on an emergency basis; the motion <br /> <br />was duly seconded and carried by the following roll call vote, with all members voting: <br /> <br />Vote 4 - 1; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Ferri!!, Roop, Teague; Nays (1) - Dallas: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Commonwealth Boulevard Associates, LLC, applied, <br />pursuant to the provisions of Section 15.2-2006 of the Code of <br />Virginia, to have vacated a public right-of-way consisting of a road <br />space 30 feet wide and approximately 500 feet long known as <br />Townes Street located west of Franklin Street and north of <br />Commonwealth Boulevard, as shown on City Tax Map 22(4&6), <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, notice of intention to vacate Townes Street has been <br />published at least twice, with at least six days elapsing between the <br />first and second publication, in a newspaper having general <br />circulation in this locality, specifying the time and place of the <br />hearing at which persons affected may appear and be heard, which <br />hearing was held on February 27, 2001 by Martinsville City Council, <br />and, <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session held on February 27, <br /> <br /> <br />
